Bronze DofE Assessed Expedition – 6th & 7th June 2026

Over the weekend of 6th and 7th June 2026, 38 Ash Manor School students put their navigation, teamwork and expedition skills to the test for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) Assessed Expedition.

The expedition began early on Saturday morning at Chinthurst Car Park. Despite increasingly dark skies overhead, the six teams set off confidently along their planned routes towards Bentley Copse Campsite. Throughout the day, the students faced challenging conditions, with almost continuous rain and drizzle until early evening. However, their determination and positive attitude never wavered.

Although some groups took slightly longer than their planned six-hour journey, every team successfully reached the campsite. Upon arrival, students demonstrated their independence by pitching their tents, preparing and cooking their own evening meals, and organising themselves for the second day of the expedition.

Sunday brought much more favourable weather, with clearer skies and dry conditions. After an early start, the teams embarked on different routes back to Chinthurst Car Park. Despite feeling the effects of the previous day's efforts, the students remained motivated and worked together to complete the final stage of their expedition.

Throughout the weekend, students were supported by Ash Manor School staff and volunteers, who monitored progress at checkpoints, ensured participants remained safe and hydrated and provided encouragement when it was needed most. The expedition assessors also played a vital role, ensuring that all teams met the requirements of the award and followed the DofE expedition principles throughout.

We are delighted to report that every student successfully completed their assessed expedition. This achievement reflects their resilience, teamwork and commitment, and puts them one step closer to achieving their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award. We look forward to seeing many of these students continue their DofE journey by taking on the challenge of the Silver Award in the future.
